EFP's networking programme PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE will take place as originally planned from 11 to 15 May, 2020, and independently of the Cannes Film Festival which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. 20 selected up-and-coming European producers will meet online this year and present their projects in speed meetings and roundtable sessions. A case study as well as talks with experts will round out the digital programme running over five days.
HERITAGE
EFI’s Heritage Department manages all the films made in the legendary Tallinnfilm studio in the years 1941-2001. As there was only one films studio in the Soviet Estonia, it forms a considerable majority of all the films made in Estonia during this period, including the biggest national hits like “Spring” and “The Last Relic”. There are approximately 850 films on the list, not to mention countless chronicles.
Like every treasure, the Tallinnfilm heritage needs to be properly archived and accounted for. The heritage department’s additional activities include the restoration of old film stock with scratched picture and faded colours. The digitization of the film library has been going on for years and hopefully one fine day in the future will see the whole Tallinnfilm heritage in its entirety ready and available in the form of high resolution digital files.
In today’s thick jungle of copyright and intellectual property laws one must not forget that the Tallinnfilm films are copyright protected. The heritage department is your go-to advisor in legal matters, when you want to have a public screening of one of the films, use a quote in a commerical or a TV show etc. Without authorization, it is unfortunately not permitted.
